Two arrested, fake cotton seed racket busted in Karimnagar

KARIMNAGAR, JUNE 6, 2023: The Karimnagar Task Force police along with the Agriculture department officials busted a fake seed racket with the arrest of two traders and seizure of huge quantity of spurious cotton seeds.

Disclosing this to newsmen here on Tuesday, Commissioner of Police L Subbarayudu said that following credible information, the Task Force police along with Agriculture officials intercepted a vehicle carrying spurious seeds at Manakondur mandal headquarters on Tuesday and recovered spurious cotton seeds worth Rs one lakh being transported in steel containers and others bags with a brand name of Sai Divya labels without any licences. The police have arrested Nooka Rajesham (40) from Sultanabad and Erukulla Veda Prakash (54) from Mattewada, Warangal and another trader Satish is at large.

The CP said that the all three accused traders who were into the business of selling fertilizers and seeds incurred losses. In order to fast bucks, they had resorted to the supply of fake seed and were luring the farmers known to them promising high yield with BT cotton seeds.

On this occasion, the CP warned the traders of stern action if they resort to any illegal activities and cheat the gullible farmers promising high yield by supplying fake seeds. He informed the farmers not to get trapped by the luring by the traders who promise high yield with fake and unlicenced seeds. Task force ACP Vijaya Saradhi, Inspectors Srujan Reddy and M Ravi Kumar, Manakondur inspector Raj Kumar, Agriculture officer Srinivas and others were also present.
